For over 30 years Ken Haddock has been hosting his Sunday Supper Club in Belfast’s
Empire Bar. With a pool of the cream of Belfast musicians at his disposal the night
has become the stuff of legend as Ken regularly delivers classic songs by the likes of
Van Morrison, Prince, Tom Waits and of course his lifetime musical hero, the late
Iain David McGeachy OBE better known to the world as John Martyn.
This year on 11 th September which by no coincidence is John’s birthday, Ken will
perform a very special 2 hour celebration of John Martyn’s music in The Mandela
Hall Belfast.
This special full band show will feature Colm McClean on guitars, Conor McCreanor
on upright and electric basses, John McCullough on keyboards, Dave Howell on
saxes and Adrian McIlduff on drums.
The show will cover all of John Martyn’s career stretching right back to his 1967
debut album London Conversation.
Ken and his band will work their way through the massive catalogue of JM’s popular
songs like May You Never, Solid Air and Sweet Little Mystery whilst also delving
into material that quite frankly not many others would even consider attempting;
songs like John Wayne, Looking On, Small Hours and Big Muff.
John Martyn himself caught Ken singing Solid Air in the Empire Bar some years ago.
He said that he’d never before heard anyone with a voice that could deliver the song
quite like Ken. Legend has it that a late night ensued!
