MANDELA HALL ACCESSIBILITY

 

At Mandela Hall we understand that everyone is different, and we want to welcome all visitors to our venue regardless of any accessibility requirements that they may have. We continually strive to provide an inclusive environment for visitors and employees and address the needs of all visitors to the venue. Our location is in the heart of the University Quarter in the south of the city centre and is easily accessed by car, taxi and public transport.

Mandela Hall/Whitla Hall Facilities

We have collated some information on accessible parking and navigating the building that we hope will help make your journey and experience with us a positive one.

​

Mandela Hall is located within the One Elmwood Student Centre at Queen’s University. The One Elmwood Customer Service Desk in the main atrium is open Monday-Sunday from 9am. If you require a visit to the venue (for familiarisation) please contact our team directly via email at mandela.hall@qub.ac.uk

​

Entry into the building is at street level (from University Road) and via an access ramp or short stair (from Elmwood Avenue). Mandela Hall is a flat-floored space (including toilet areas and lobby), and all doors between spaces are powered.

​

For events in Whitla Hall, there is wheelchair access via the front entrance, into the foyer and ground floor area, including wheelchair-accessible toilets. There is no wheelchair access to the balcony area.

 

If assistance is required at any of our events, staff will be available.

Access to disabled parking

Mandela Hall is situated in the south-city-centre with on-street parking. There are several marked disabled spaces on Elmwood Avenue, near the venue entrance. For events in the Whitla Hall, a number of marked disabled spaces are available within the grounds of Queen's University. 

 

Wheelchair spaces

We can accommodate wheelchair users at any event, even if it has been sold as “standing only”. 

 

When an event has been sold as “standing only”, we are able to offer limited seating for those unable to stand. Please contact us to request seating. While we endeavour to accommodate all requests, the safe seating area is limited in size.

 

Storage of walker or other equipment

We can accommodate the storage of equipment at our venue and should you require this service during a performance please let a member of our staff know on arrival.

 

Guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs

We welcome guide dogs, hearing dogs and other assistance dogs at Mandela Hall. We are unable to accommodate any other animals in the venue.

Essential Companion or Carer tickets

​

Mandela Hall is an inclusive venue that is committed to ensuring our space is accessible to all visitors. We recognise that, for many people, visiting a venue can be a challenge and we offer a range of services, facilities and advice to assist with your experience.

 

Everyone has the right to access quality entertainment and the team at Mandela Hall will endeavour to make reasonable adjustments to facilitate requests; however, due to capacity and space within our venues it may not always be possible to facilitate all requests.

 

If you do require supervision or assistance during your visit, you may be eligible for a complimentary Essential Companion or Carer ticket. The companion must be over the age of 18, and be able to help you with access to Mandela Hall and its facilities. Essential Companion tickets are for customers who could not attend the event without the presence of their Essential Companion.

Essential Companion / Carer Requirements

​

At the Mandela Hall, we can provide a complimentary Essential Companion or Carer ticket if you require continual assistance or supervision during your visit.

  • Your companion must be over 18 years of age and be able to assist you in the event of an evacuation.

  • This offer is not open or intended for those who simply want a companion or require assistance with transportation to our venues and is limited, based on the capacity of our venue and the specifics of the event.

The person applying should be in receipt of one of the following*:

  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Attendance Allowance

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

  • Certificate of Visual Impairment

  • Disabled SmartPass / Blue Badge holder

  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB)

  • Constant Attendance Allowance

  • Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (Guaranteed Income Payment)

  • CredAbility Card

  • Medical Authorisation

*All documentation must be valid within the last 12 months.

 

If you require an Essential Carer / Companion ticket, our team will be in contact via email

once you have submitted the form below.

 

We will retain copies of your documentation only to confirm the booking and it will then bedisposed of in line with Data Protection Regulations.

Our team will make every effort to facilitate requests; however, occasionally, based on seat availability, we will not always be able to offer an accessible seat or essential carer /companion ticket.
